Our native plantings are expanding! Many thanks to Veronica McMahon, who recently installed a new native plant garden at the edge of the south lawn, across the walkway from the existing native garden.
Inspired by last year’s native plant garden tour and her interest in conservation, Veronica proposed creating an additional native plant garden at St John’s for her Eagle Scout project. After receiving the go-ahead from the Property Committee, Veronica coordinated with the St. John’s Eco Action team and Director of Operations Chris Martin to develop the plan for the garden. Next steps included identifying the specific location, developing a list of appropriate plants and visiting native plant suppliers. Site preparation involved removing large quantities of invasive English Ivy and a large Nandina shrub nearby. Veronica enlisted the help of 13 additional volunteers, primarily from her scout troop, and installation was completed over two full days of work.
Please help us congratulate and thank Veronica for her Eagle Scout project well done, and wish her well when she heads north to Smith College this fall to study engineering!
