Wednesdays, Dec. 4, 11, 18 | 7:30 pm | St. Mary's Chapel -
Sung Lay-Led Compline services following The Book of Common Prayer will be offered three times, on December 4, 11, and 18, in St. Mary’s Chapel as part of a special offering to fellow parishioners during the Advent Season.
The evenings will start at 7:30 pm with a short presentation by a parishioner to provide some interesting observations, history, or other thoughts relevant to that week or particular service. That will be followed by a short quiet time for private contemplation before the Compline service begins. We will be done by 8:30 pm.
On December 4, we will open with some history of Advent and observations on the role of the Advent Wreath as a part of many faithful peoples’ spiritual and prayer lives in quiet preparation for the coming Christmas Season.
These lay-led efforts are being taken under a newly extended ministry at St. John’s called "Exploring Spirituality: Encountering the Sacred." Its purpose is to engage interested parishioners in an exploration of spirituality and spiritual practice as they are commonly understood in Episcopal traditions, from the role of communal and individual prayer as laid out in The Book of Common Prayer to the many avenues of faithful exploration available to us, like Contemplative Prayer, Walking the Labyrinth, and others.
