Sunday, Oct. 18 | 10:00 am - 1:30 pm | Nave/Livestream (bit.ly/STJN-livestream) -
On Sunday, October 18, we will do something a little unusual at St. John’s: instead of our normal Sunday schedule, we will gather as one church for one worship service at 10:00 am (our only service for that day), followed by lunch and a parish-wide conversation about the next chapter of our life together. I hope you’ll make every effort to be there.
Over the past several months, the Vestry has been in conversation with Ministry Architects about helping us step back and ask some important questions:
- What do we sense God calling us to in this season of ministry?
- Are there certain priorities that need our attention and best energy right now?
- How do we make sure we’re equipped with all we need for the next chapter in our life together as a church community?
These are questions every church needs to ask from time to time. But this feels like an especially important moment for us to ask them.
As many of you know, I have begun talking openly about the fact that my time as your rector is drawing to a close. I’m not going anywhere any time soon! But sometime in the next couple of years, St. John’s will enter a season of transition and eventually begin the process of calling its next Rector.
One of the greatest gifts we can give the future of St. John’s is to do some of this work now by getting clear about the kind of church we are and want to become.
That is what October 18 is about.
Following our 10:00 am service, we’ll share lunch together and then spend approximately two hours in conversation guided by Scott Pontier from Ministry Architects.
So please come. Whether you’ve been at St. John’s for forty years or four months, your voice matters!
If you need to join us online, both the worship service at 10:00 am and the conversation afterwards will be streamed at bit.ly/STJN-livestream.
- the Rev. Sari Ateek, Rector
