In 1951, the women of St. John’s, tired of sponsoring bake sales to support the good work of St. John’s in the community, established the St. John’s Opportunity Shop thrift store to raise funds for community ministry. They succeeded beyond their wildest dreams!
Now located at 4504 Walsh Street, just blocks from the church, and ably run by dedicated volunteers from St. John’s and the community, the Shop accepts and resells gently used donations of all kinds. Over the 70+ years since its founding, the Shop has raised and contributed more than $3 million to support St. John’s community engagement ministries, based on available records!
This year we are deeply grateful to the Shop for its astonishing contribution of $102,000 to support the many ministries overseen by St. John’s Justice and Community Engagement Coordinating Committee (JC3), ministries that make a difference every day in many lives in our local community and beyond.
We thank the donors, patrons and volunteers who have made the Shop so successful and urge parishioners to support its great work by donating gently used items, joining the team as a volunteer and regularly patronizing the Shop - you never know what treasures you may find there, and best of all, you can be sure that your donations and purchases will be helping others! Our deepest thanks to the Shop for its generosity, helping make this work possible!
