Nov. 1 – All Saints Evensong

Sunday, Nov. 1  |  5:00 pm  |  Nave  -

The St. John’s Choir will offer its annual All Saints Choral Evensong on Sunday, November 1, starting at 5:00 pm. In homage to All Saints Sunday, the front of the church will be lit with scores of candles to help remind us of “those we love but see no longer.” Following the 900+ year Anglican tradition, the choir will sing most of the service.

At the beginning of the service as the candles on the Altar are lit, the choir will sing a meditative and serene setting of the Phos Hilaron (O joyful light). After each reading, the choir will sing the text of the Magnificat (Luke 1) and the Nunc Dimittis (Luke 2), by late 19th/early 20th-century Irish composer Charles Wood. The choir will finish the service with a contemplative anthem “Souls of the Righteous” by American composer Thomas Pavlechko

This beautiful service of song, scripture, prayers, and hymns will be followed by a reception in the Parish Hall. If you cannot participate in person, the service will be livestreamed on YouTube.

We hope you will join us!
