Cooking Oil Donations Needed for San Mateo Food Distribution

St. John’s Refugee and Immigration Ministry continues to grow, through deepening ties with San Mateo Episcopal Church in Hyattsville—and we need your help!

San Mateo runs a monthly food distribution that currently serves approximately 275 families.  To help with that, St. John’s is collecting donations of cooking oil (canola or vegetable oil, 24- or 32-oz size is preferred, in plastic bottles only) for their distributions. Look for collection bins at church on Sunday. Financial donations are also welcome.

► OCTOBER 2026 UPDATE: San Mateo now serves 300-plus families who come to its monthly food distribution—and that number is growing quickly! St. John’s thus has a NEW goal for the holidays: we would like to donate 350 bottles of cooking oil this November and December!

There are three ways to donate:

  1. Bring oil to church when you attend a service or other event.
  2. Mail oil to St. John’s Norwood by the beginning of the month.
  3. Mail oil directly to San Mateo Episcopal Church (for delivery between the 1st and 5th of November and December) at 5901 36th Ave., Hyattsville, MD 20782-2925, Attn: Deacon Sally.

THANK YOU for helping the many families in need—it is greatly appreciated!
