Winter Coat Drive for Identity’s “Newcomer” Clients

Please help our newest county residents stay warm this winter! St. Johns is collecting for immigrants who have recently arrived in Montgomery County. We are seeking new or gently used coats (clean, no stains, no broken zippers or buttons), along with new (only) hats, mittens, gloves, and scarves. These coats and outerwear items are needed for males and females in all sizes, from babies to adults.

Parishioners are invited to drop off these items in a designated bin in the West Avenue lobby on three Sundays: Dec.1, Dec. 8, and Dec. 15. Or please use the form below to contact Sarah Whitesell if you want to arrange a drop-off during the week.

The coats will be distributed by Identity, a non-profit that serves primarily Hispanic youth and their families who live in high poverty areas of Montgomery County. Over the past 25 years, Identity has worked in schools, in neighborhoods, and on playing fields with more than 100,000 Latino and other underserved youth and their families to teach and model the social-emotional, academic, workforce and life skills needed to succeed and contribute fully to their community. Identity transforms lives, and its clients demonstrate tremendous resilience in the face of great challenges. St. Johns has successfully partnered with Identity to serve newcomers to the county in other ways, including helping with housing needs. Identity and its clients are very appreciative of this relationship!
