Informational Forum on the Background, Purpose, and Vision of Our Land Acknowledgement Statement

Sunday, Sept. 15  |  10:00 AM - 11:00 AM  |  Parish Hall / Zoom  -

The St. John’s Vestry, in partnership with our Race, Justice, and Equity Committee (RJE), will be hosting an important informational forum on Sunday, September 15 at 10:00 am in the Parish Hall. This forum comes in advance of a vestry vote to adopt a land acknowledgement statement which recognizes the indigenous inhabitants of the land upon which our church sits.

This forum will be an opportunity for our parish to learn about the context of such land  acknowledgements in America and the Episcopal Church, as well as to learn about the intention and process by which our own parish developed the following land acknowledgement that we are considering for adoption:

We acknowledge that St. John's Norwood sits
on the unceded land of the Piscataway Nation.

We honor the past and present histories
of these peoples and of this place.

Please join us this Sunday at the 10:00 am in person or by Zoom (bit.ly/STJNmain). The vestry invites you to bring your curiosity, comments, and questions. Click here to learn more about the Episcopal Church and Indigenous Land Acknowledgements.
