New Sacred Ground Circle Forming

A new circle of the Sacred Ground conversation is beginning Monday, October 26. It will meet on Zoom Monday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00, through February 1, with a few breaks for holidays.  It is being led by St. John's Deacon Jayne Osgood, who has helped lead past circles, and Bill Raisner, who leads St. John's Racial Justice and Equity Committee, which is sponsoring this circle.

The Sacred Ground dialogue series on race has been revised and updated!  Each week will feature a discussion of short films or readings that explore the history of race in the U.S., while also weaving in threads of family stories, economic class, and political and regional identity. Grounded in our call to faith, hope, and love, the curriculum invites us to a deeper understanding of how our history has led us to the divides and challenges of the present day. Sacred Ground is part of Becoming Beloved Community, The Episcopal Church’s long-term commitment to racial healing, reconciliation, and justice in our personal lives, our ministries, and our society.

Almost 50 St. John's parishioners have taken the course, and have universally found it rewarding and illuminating. One recent participant said that it "opens our eyes to history and contemporary life that would continue to hold people in limiting definitions, when ‘Child of God’ is really the only category that matters.”

The circle will be kept to a small group to encourage active participation and sharing by all.  Because the curriculum has been revised and updated,  those who have been in a previous circle are also invited and encouraged to join.
