ST. JOHN'S MUSIC PROGRAMS
The St. John's Singers
St. John’s Singers is made up of women and men singers who enjoy singing music that is less demanding. Although the music is traditional in style, the repertoire is diverse and includes several contemporary composers. The anthems this choir sings are written for unison, 2-, and 3-parts. The choir is comprised of those who have singing experience and those who have a good ear but may be challenged by reading music.
The choir is made up of high school, college-age, and adults. This generational blend allows the rare chance for parents and their teenagers to sing together. This is an excellent opportunity for teens, who may sing in a school ensemble, to sing with more experienced singers, be exposed to additional choral training, and learn sacred repertoire that can’t be performed in a public school.
The relaxed rehearsal atmosphere makes it easy to learn the music several weeks in advance. Digital recordings of the anthems are frequently distributed to help the singers learn the music at home.
Rehearsals are held on Wednesday evenings from 7:30-8:30 pm, and St. John’s Singers lead the 9:00 am. worship service. If a singer is unable to attend the Wednesday rehearsal, a make-up rehearsal is offered on Sunday mornings starting at 8:00 am, before the usual 8:30 am warm-up. This make-up rehearsal is an ideal opportunity for those who cannot make the weekday rehearsal.
The St. John’s Norwood music programs continue to grow, and we welcome newcomers to our lively and loving choir family.
