Participants will be taught to mend or darn their garments so that they can be put back into use, stronger and more beautiful with these personal signs of care.  Mending and darning will be used as a transformative and healing practice as damage in clothing references the body and the movements of the wearer.

No experience necessary. Please bring one or two garments that have meaning to you and are in need of repair. All supplies will be provided. A $5 donation for supplies will be welcomed but optional.

Deborah will also share about her personal experiences as a breast cancer survivor and how mending relates to her exhibition of drawings and paintings, Sutra, currently on view at The Writer's Center, 4508 Walsh Street, Bethesda, through March 23.  Click here to read more.
