Keep Our Kitchen Cooking, Caring and Connecting! – August 2025 Update

St. John’s kitchen has hummed with activity since it was moved to its current location in 1957, playing a central role in our Parish Life and ministries across multiple generations. From Third Sunday suppers, to the annual Shrove Tuesday pancake supper, Easter brunches, Shepherd’s Table, ministry fundraisers, and so much more, our kitchen has been a space for connecting and caring with our fellow parishioners and wider community.

Last Spring, we launched the Keep Our Kitchen Cooking Appeal to fund the replacement of outdated components of our current kitchen. In doing so, we will restore the space as a vibrant, working commercial kitchen for St. John’s and its various ministries.

Thank you for helping us make great progress reaching the estimated minimum of $350,000 to finance critical improvements to the safety and operation of the church kitchen! Over the last several months, and thanks to your generous support, much work has been done behind the scenes. The project design is underway with the goal of having drawings to submit for permitting in early September.

While the work is progressing, we believe it’s prudent to assume some increase in equipment, construction, and labor costs since the initial estimates were made in 2024. So we still need your help and financial support to make this project a success. In the coming weeks, we will receive and approve final design plans, including bids from the contractors, which will provide us with a more accurate estimate of the total project cost, including contingency funds for inevitable unforeseen circumstances.

We are aiming to raise an additional $30,000 to $50,000 by the end of September to have an adequate contingency fund for the project.  Any funds raised above the cost of the base project scope will be used for other needed kitchen upgrades, such as new windows and doors as well as other optional upgrades. See the Vestry-approved primary scope of work and wish list for more information.
