Are you looking to meet new friends in our growing congregation? Are you seeking new ways to connect with fellow parishioners in a fun and informal way? Then Koinonia is for you!
St. John’s Koinonia Dinner Groups or "K-Groups," for short, draw on the longstanding Christian tradition of breaking bread together to build fellowship and community. The Greek word koinonia appears 19 times in the New Testament, referencing community, communion, hospitality, sharing, and relationship!
Koinonia groups meet monthly from January to June in members’ homes, at a restaurant, or at a church Third Sunday Supper. Those interested in joining a group may sign up online for Koinonia or pick up a form in the church office and return it by January 3 to Deacon Anne Derse. We will set up groups of 6-8 parishioners, recruit volunteers to host the first dinner for each group, and connect the group by email. Participants take it from there to arrange the time and place to meet over dinner. On the signup you can indicate whether you’d like to join an intergenerational group, a group of young adults or families with children, or be randomly assigned to make some exciting new connections.
Longtime K-Group member Liz Mullikin shares this testimonial:
Our K-Group decided to take turns hosting dinner in our homes, with invitees bringing courses to supplement the main meal. Amazingly, our group is still having dinner together ten years later. We have been with each other through three elections, Covid, retirements, children growing up and moving to college and much more. We have also shared many laughs and fabulous food. When one couple in the group moved away, we were delighted to welcome a newly arrived couple to the group! At the end of each dinner, we schedule the next meeting of the “K” group and I hope we keep scheduling the next one for at least another 10 years. I highly recommend the K group experience as one of the best ways to get to know St. John’s parishioners who are some of the nicest people I have ever met!
We love to see longstanding and newer members of St. John's deepen relationships and discover new connections. Koinonia is a great way to build fellowship in our community. Please join us! Sign up to participate in Koinonia 2025 today.
