Holy Land Committee Welcomes Ceasefire, Invites Participation

St. John's Holy Land Committee welcomes the ceasefire and return of the hostages and prisoners, and prays for the accord's continued success, future phases, rebuilding and healing. The Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem welcomes the ceasefire and appeals “to fellow Christians and all those of goodwill to continue to advocate and pray not only for the adoption of the full agreement, but also for the region's leaders and people to invest as much of their political and financial capital towards peacebuilding as they tragically have in waging warfare over these past many months-and in the decades preceding.” You can find the statement and other Episcopal Church resources here.

Last year, The Episcopal Church (TEC)’s General Convention in Louisville in June called on Episcopalians to be more involved in advocacy on Holy Land issues, and encouraging us to subscribe to the Episcopal Public Policy Network, which you can do here

As events unfold, we will look for opportunities to engage on our four pillars: educational initiatives on the complexities of the situation in the Holy Land; humanitarian support to NGOs in the West Bank and Gaza; interfaith activities that encourage mutual understanding between Israelis and Palestinians, as well as between Christians, Muslims, and Jews; and advocacy to bring equity and justice to the Middle East.  To learn more, see our charter (available here) and a summary of our activities from last year (available here).

Please join us for our next meeting on Sunday, January 26, at 12:30 pm in the Lounge (and by Zoom) to brainstorm activities for 2025.  And please join us during Lent for the powerful Bearing Witness curriculum sponsored by American Friends of the Episcopal Diocese in Jerusalem.
