Helping with Healthcare Access in Honduras

How do our parishioners love their neighbor and live their faith outside the walls of St. John’s?  Parishioner Vike Vicente, a pediatric ophthalmologist, helps transform lives in Honduras, where he treats conditions that impair vision for men, women, and children.

Vike volunteers annually with the Virginia Hospital Center Medical Brigade, which seeks to improve healthcare for the underserved in Honduras. One simple surgery can transform life for the very poor. St. John’s helps with donations of gently used glasses.

The photos below, shared with the permission of the subjects, tell the story of compassion and healing brought to so many through the VHC Medical Brigade’s annual medical mission.  View the January 2023 Forum presentation by Vike about a previous VHC Medical Brigade mission trip.

Vike says, "Thank you to all who donated glasses for our mission trip to Comayagua, Honduras with the Virginia Hospital Center Brigade. It was an amazing experience. The families and the kids were very grateful. Gracias.”

Thank you, Vike and St. John’s, for making a difference!
