As we celebrate St. Francis and the Blessing of the Animals on October 4, we are reminded that Creation Care includes caring for all God’s creatures. We all love our pets, yet there are also animals we don’t encounter on a daily basis that need our care as well—wild animals that are endangered, some critically due to habitat loss, pollution, illegal trafficking, and climate change. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has reported that over 32,000 animals are threatened with extinction.
With her lifelong interest in nature and art, parishioner Carolyn Peirce has created collages of endangered species made with recycled materials that have been reproduced as notecards. Boxes of cards containing her favorite 12 designs will be offered for sale on October 4 between 10:00 am - 12:30 pm, and also after the 5:00 pm service. 100% of proceeds will benefit environmental organizations working to protect our natural world. Pick up a box for yourself or as a gift, and help carry forward St. Francis’s legacy of caring for Creation and all its creatures.
