Foster a Healthy & Inclusive Democracy: Encourage Voter Turnout!

A high level of civic participation—including voting!—is essential for a healthy, inclusive  democracy.   One segment that tends to have chronically lower voter participation rates is poor and low-income citizens, according to a 2020 analysis that was commissioned by the Poor People's Campaign (PPC).

The Maryland Poor People's Campaign (MD PPC) is thus requesting our help during the coming week with preparing and sending "Get Out The Vote" postcards to mobilize low income, low propensity voters to the polls.

On Sunday, October 20, packs of 20 postcards and addresses, along with the required message text, will be available for pickup in the West Ave. Lobby.  Look for the plastic bins just inside the doors, to your left as you enter the building.

The deadline to finish preparing the postcards is Saturday, October 26.

  • If you are able to add postage and mail the cards yourself, please do so!  The MD PPC has a limited budget and is very grateful for your contribution.
  •  The other option is to return the completed (but un-stamped) postcards to the bins in St. John's West Ave. Lobby by Sunday, October 27.

Teens as well as adults are encouraged to participate!  It's a great volunteer activity to fit in on your own time, and students can earn SSL hours for the work.
