Sunday, May 25 | 10:00 am | Parish Hall / Zoom -
What defining historical moments have shaped our denomination, and what does that tell us about who we are?
In this session, Sari will be focusing on some of the big moments in the Episcopal Church of America that shaped who we are today—moments of bold innovation, painful division, courageous witness, and surprising grace. From the founding after the Revolution to the ordination of women, the Civil Rights Movement, and the debates around LGBTQ+ inclusion, this session will explore how theology, politics, and identity have intersected across our history. Come learn how the Episcopal Church has wrestled with change—and how those turning points continue to inform our witness in the world today.
This is the sixth session of a seven-part series on Episcopal Identity led by St. John's rector, the Rev. Sari Ateek. Starting with our origins, we will explore together some of the key aspects of who we are as Episcopalians, including our defining characteristics, what we believe (and why), our governance structure, and even an introduction to our prayer book.
