Corporate Reorganization Completed

The formal reorganization of St. John’s, as approved at the Annual Parish Meeting on May 4, has been completed. Effective in June, when the Parish’s Articles of Incorporation were accepted for record by the Maryland State Department of Assessments and Taxation, St. John’s became a religious corporation, organized under the authority of the Corporations and Associations Article of the Maryland Code (rather than the authority of the 1798 Maryland Vestry Act).

As a corporate entity, St. John’s will continue to be identified formally as The Vestry of Norwood Parish, but its Articles of Incorporation also recognize that it is commonly known as St. John’s Church, Norwood Parish.  Going forward, we must now use either the official entity name ("The Vestry of Norwood Parish") or the common name ("St. John’s Church, Norwood Parish") in any documents in which St. John’s is named as a legal entity.

Special thanks to the Governance Coordinating Committee and St. John’s Co-Chancellors for bringing this long-running project to completion.
