Christian Principles and the General Election

Sunday, October 27  |  10:00 am  |  Parish Hall / Zoom  -

How does our faith guide us when it comes to national politics? As we quickly approach the General Election in November, many of us are seeking constructive ways of navigating the challenging moral and ethical terrain of a polarized nation. Now, more than ever, we are in need of prophetic voices that call us back to the foundation of our faith, reminding us of the values of the Kingdom of God and how to keep them front and center when we exercise our civic duty at the polls.

On Sunday, October 27, during the 10:00 am Adult Forum, we are delighted to host once again The Rev. Adam Russell Taylor, president of Sojourners and author of A More Perfect Union: A New Vision for Building the Beloved Community for a timely presentation titled “Christian Principles and the General Election.”  My hope in inviting Rev. Taylor is to create a space in which our political convictions can enter into mature conversation with the tenets of our faith so that we may together discern the voice of God for our time. Please join us on October 27 at 10:00 am in person or online at bit.ly/STJNmain.

Taylor previously led the Faith Initiative at the World Bank Group and served as the vice president in charge of Advocacy at World Vision U.S. and the senior political director at Sojourners. He has also served as the executive director of Global Justice, an organization that educates and mobilizes students around global human rights and economic justice. He was selected for the 2009/2010 class of White House Fellows and served in the White House Office of Cabinet Affairs and Public Engagement. Taylor is a graduate of Emory University, the Harvard University Kennedy School of Government, and the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology. Taylor also serves on the Independent Sector Board, the Global Advisory Board of Tearfund UK, and is a member of the inaugural class of the Aspen Institute Civil Society Fellowship. Taylor is ordained in the American Baptist Church and the Progressive National Baptist Convention and serves in ministry at the Alfred Street Baptist Church in Alexandria, Va.
