Sunday, Sept. 27 | 12:30 pm - 3:00 pm | Parish Hall/Zoom -
Please join the Faith & Democracy Ministry of St. John’s Episcopal Church Norwood Parish in Chevy Chase, Maryland on September 27, 2026 from 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm for a screening of the documentary film Bad Faith: 2026.
The screening will be preceded by a light lunch and followed by a discussion and Q&A with renowned author and journalist Anne Nelson, and moderated by St. John’s Deacon, The Reverend Anne Derse. Nelson is the author of Shadow Network, and her groundbreaking investigative work served as a primary source for the documentary.
Originally released in 2024 and updated in 2026, “Bad Faith” explores how Christian Nationalism has become a powerful anti-democratic force in America. In its own report released in 2024, “The Crisis of Christian Nationalism,” the House of Bishops Theology Committee of the Episcopal Church explores the rise and influence of Christian Nationalism in the United States, including its connection to white supremacy, and concludes that the movement is a distortion of Christianity and a threat to democracy which must be challenged.
On Sunday, May 17, 2026, top Administration officials, lawmakers, and prominent evangelical Christian leaders gathered on the National Mall for a prayer rally celebrating America’s 250th anniversary. The event, called “Rededicate 250: A National Jubilee of Prayer, Praise and Thanksgiving," drew thousands for worship, music, speeches, and prayer focused on reaffirming the United States as a Christian nation and “one nation under God." (MS NOW, May 17, 2026) This taxpayer-funded event drew criticism for blurring the line between church and state. As stated by Reverend Adam Russell Taylor, who leads the Christian organization Sojourners, “We are deeply concerned that what is really being rededicated is a nation to a very narrow and ideological part of the Christian Faith that betrays our nation’s fundamental commitment to religious freedom.” (The Guardian, May 17, 2026)
Please join us on September 27th. You can participate in person in the Parish Hall at St. John’s, located at 6701 Wisconsin Avenue, Chevy Chase, MD, or virtually at http://bit.ly/STJNFaith.
