we are home to all ages
Children, youth & family programs
Here’s a taste of your family will find as we Worship, Grow, Build Community, and Make a Difference together.
YOUR CHILDREN ARE WELCOME HERE
Nurturing tomorrow's church today
From participating in Holy Communion to serving in vital roles like Acolytes, Lectors, Welcomers, and Choristers, our young members actively shape our services.
We encourage families with young children to sit near the front, where little ones can see and hear what is happening at the altar.
Supports for families – including our PrayGround, Children's Chapel, Kids' Kits, Worship Streaming and Nursery – ensure that worship is accessible and engaging for all ages. Learn more about Children in Worship here.

LEARN AND GROW IN FAITH
Spiritual education and growth for all ages
Our dynamic church school program, from preschool to high school, makes learning about Jesus' teachings relevant – and fun. Classes for children from 3 years through 5th grade participate in Godly Play, a Montessori-based approach, inviting children to explore, engage, and respond creatively to the timeless stories of our Christian faith.
For 6th graders and above, St. John’s offers Journey to Adulthood (J2A), a spiritual formation program that includes confirmation at the National Cathedral, as well as a life changing high-school pilgrimage.

EMPOWERING YOUNG PEOPLE
Making a lasting impact
We empower our young members to lead with compassion and make a tangible difference in the world. Through initiatives like Nourishing Bethesda, Camp Joy, and Service-on-the-Go, our children, youth, and families contribute to a better world.
St. John’s is an approved MCPS-SSL organization – many of our activities can be used to meet MCPS graduation requirements.
