St. John’s Advocates for Gun Safety

Thanks to all the St. John's parishioners who attended Moms Demand Action Advocacy Day in Annapolis on Thursday, February 5!

At the opening rally, Delegate Nicole Williams (who spoke at our January 18 Town Hall) and Senator Sara Love highlighted the bill to ban convertible pistols, Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott spoke about progress gained and work still to be done, and survivors and students shared stories of loss, fears, and determination to make change.

After the rally, we thanked Senator Jeff Waldstreicher for holding an early hearing on the Family and Law Enforcement Protection Act and sponsoring the convertible pistol bill and asked him to pass both bills out of the Judicial Proceedings Committee. Later, we attended a hearing on the convertible pistol bill and ended the day by meeting with District 16 Delegates Teresa Woorman and Sara Wolek, along with aides to Delegate Marc Korman and Senator Sara Love.

The GVP Ministry will not meet in February, but join us on Sunday afternoon, March 15, to learn about trends in gun deaths and injuries and our efforts to reduce them.
