Feb. 8 Webinar: Youth, Faith & Politics

Sunday, Feb. 8  |  1:00 pm - 2:30 pm  EST  |  Zoom (bit.ly/STJN-SpecialEvent)  -

Join us for an inter-faith, virtual conversation on “Youth, Faith and Politics” with experts Melissa Deckman, Chief Executive Officer of the Public Religion Research Institute, and Paul Djupe, Professor of Political Science at Denison University. The discussion will moderated by author and journalist Ray Suarez.

Recent research suggests that in this age of social media, virtual work, divisive politics, and alternative facts, increasing numbers of American youth are either not participating in organized religion or are seeking out faith communities that they believe provide a deeper sense of personal connection and relevance.  This has led some American youth to more prescriptive and conservative faith communities and faith teachings.  Is this a new truth, or a temporary anomaly?

This conversation will dig into these trends and explore how faith messaging and communities could offer greater connection, relevance, and meaning to the daily lives of American youth at a time when they believe that government, politics, democracy, and the rule of law do not.

This webinar is Part I of a two-part series on how GenZ and millennials are shaping the future of the church. In March, we will host the second webinar featuring several young religious leaders representing different faith traditions.
