The start of a new school year can bring both excitement and anxiety for students and the adults in their lives. This year's return to school will involve new uncertainties stemming from the Supreme Court’s June decision impacting the use of LGBTQ+ storybooks in classrooms. St. John’s Library is ready to help fill the gap.
In June 2024, St. John’s Pride Alliance and the St. John’s Library partnered on a project in which parishioners contributed to the library’s LGBTQ book collection for young people. Participants donated books and enjoyed expanding their horizons and reading some lovely picture books in the process. Continuing into 2025, the St. John’s Library staff has expanded and enhanced that collection.
If you or the children in your life are concerned about the availability of those books in the classroom or school library, please know that St. John’s has many wonderful story books such as Prince & Knight and Uncle Bobby’s Wedding available to borrow.
