Solidarity with Ukraine

As reported in last week's Crossroads, St. John's was recently recognized by the Ukrainian Orthodox Church "for unwavering commitment and remarkable service to the Orthodox Church and the people of Ukraine."

The award was made at a special luncheon at St. Andrew Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral on February 9.  Father Volodymyr Steliac, Rector of St. Andrew's and its Humanitarian Center (and Father V to us) noted that "The award is truly deserved...May God bless you and everyone at St. John’s for your kindness and generosity."

At the luncheon we were reminded that this war of Russian aggression has consequences for the whole world.  A plea was made to American citizens to continue to help Ukraine now caught in the political upheaval in the United States.  The loss of USAID money already has had significant consequences. Against all these formidable obstacles, we were told that VICTORY is still the goal!

So, as we thank you for all you have done, we encourage you to do more. To that end, please mark your calendars for the following Ukrainian Support Group (USG) events in 2025:

  • Sunday, April 6 - Ukrainian Easter Bakery & Boutique:  Shop for incredible Easter cakes and other baked goodies, Easter Baskets with Ukrainian Painted Easter Eggs, and more.  West Avenue Lobby.
  • Sunday, November 16 - Third Sunday Supper Hosted by the USG:  Enjoy a delicious Ukrainian buffet, an auction, and entertainment. Parish Hall.
  • Sunday, December 7 - Ukrainian Christmas Market - We'll reprise last year's huge success with wonderful holiday gifts and handicrafts from Ukrainian artisans. West Ave. Lobby

Money raised from these events will be designated to special needs in Ukraine identified by Father V and the Humanitarian Center, our partner in fundraising. Let us remain in SOLIDARITY with Ukraine, supporting them now and in the years to come.
