Episcopal Identity: Conversation with The Rev. Canon Nan Peete

by the Rev. Sari Ateek

This Sunday, February 9, as a part of my Episcopal Identity introduction series, I will be pausing my lectures for a one-of-a-kind interview with an especially notable St. John’s parishioner—the Rev. Canon Nan Peete—on the 40th anniversary of her ordination to the priesthood. The conversation will be held at 10:00 am in the Parish Hall and over Zoom (bit.ly/STJNmain).

Among the first women of color to be ordained in the Episcopal Church, and the first ordained woman to ever address the Lambeth Conference, Rev. Peete will share with us personal stories of her life and ministry on the front lines of some of the Episcopal Church’s most significant moments in the last half century, including navigating the Civil Rights movement and the ordination of Women.

Rev. Peete will also preach and celebrate the Holy Eucharist at both the 9:00 am and 11:15 am services this Sunday and we will mark the occasion of her ordination anniversary with a special prayer and blessing during the 11:15 AM service.

Please join us this Sunday to hear from one of the true heroes of the Episcopal Church.
