On November 9, St. John’s indomitable Eco-Action Team participated in a clean-up day at Shepherd Parkway Park. Located in Southeast Washington DC, Shepherd Parkway consists of over 205 acres and is home to a number of forts that were built to defend the city during the Civil War. The clean-up was organized by Ward 8 Woods Conservancy, a grassroots group dedicated to preserving the natural beauty of underserved areas of DC.
Liz Jones and Earle O’Donnell joined a small number of other volunteers who clambered up and down the rocks and steep hills of the park. We removed tons of trash including traffic cones and endless bottles, cans and other nuisances of modern daily life.
It was a fun day. The Eco-Action Team will continue to identify opportunities for St. John’s to plant trees and clean up parks in underserved areas of the District, likely including more trips to Shepherd Parkway. We hope you can join us; please use the form below to connect!
