Property Update: Things Unseen

Few of us have been in the boiler room but it does more than heat.  It is also a vital collection point for stormwater.

Earlier this year we discovered that our seven-foot-deep, steel-lined pit from 1947 was corroding and creating debris that had damaged the two pumps that take the water to the city drains. In addition, our system was barely adequate for the tropical downpours that Washington now experiences. Failure would have flooded the Hines Hall level of the basement.

The Property Committee recommended to the Vestry that we needed a complete makeover.  The Vestry allocated up to $50,000;  the project has been completed for under $40,000.

Please enjoy the photos below of our new fiberglass-lined pit, automated pump controls, and larger-diameter exit piping. This work doesn't enhance the appearance of the building, but ignoring the problem would have been unthinkable.
