The St. John’s Choir will present Gabriel Faure’s Requiem as part of the November 3 evening service remembering those who have died this past year.

The seven movements of Requiem in D minor will be interspersed through the Communion liturgy and accompanied by a ten-piece orchestra and organ under the direction of Jason West, Director of Music Ministries. The piece will also feature our soprano and baritone soloists.

The Rev. Dr. William Bradley Roberts, composer and Professor Emeritus of Church Music at Virginia Theological Seminary, will guest preach.

The service can also be viewed via YouTube livestream:  https://YouTube.com/@StJohnsNorwood/streams

Composed between 1887 and 1890, Fauré’s Requiem in D minor focuses on themes of eternal rest and consolation, reflecting a peaceful and hopeful view of death. It is a serene and gentle composition, distinct from the more dramatic requiems of this time. The work is known for its beautiful melodies and is often considered one of Fauré’s most significant compositions.
