Join Us in Building Beloved Community:  Join Sacred Ground!

We are in the early stages of planning to offer another Sacred Ground circle in the coming spring. Sacred Ground is the Episcopal church’s groundbreaking film- and readings-based series on race, grounded in faith, in which small groups explore America’s history of race and racism, including family stories, economic class and political and regional identity.

As those at St. John's and other parishes who have taken the course, including me, can attest, it is a thoughtful and enlightening course that gives us insights to help understand and reckon with problematic aspects of our country’s racial and ethnic history, and their ongoing legacy for us today, through short readings and films that the group discusses one evening each week. We expect the evening sessions will be held online, from everyone's computer.

The goal is education and enlightenment without guilt or shame, to help us all wherever we are along our paths to building the beloved community.

It is being organized by St. John's, and is open to parishioners and interested people from other parishes and communities. We are publicizing in advance to gauge interest, recognizing that, to encourage a deep and intimate conversation among the participants, the class will be limited in size.
