The Rev. Dr. Sari Ateek, Rector
The Rev. Dr. Sari Ateek began his journey with St. John’s as its rector in the Fall of 2010. A Palestinian Christian, born and raised in Israel/Palestine, and the son of an Episcopal Priest, Sari brings a rich experience of faith and life to his ministry.
One of the many gifts Sari brings to the church is his conversational preaching style. His leadership has inspired St. John’s toward greater inclusivity within the parish and deeper engagement in the work of social justice beyond the walls of the church. Radical Generosity is also a regular theme of Sari’s messages, believing that the act of giving is God’s antidote to the various forms of “taking” that perpetuate the cycles of human brokenness. He earned his Masters of Divinity from Fuller Theological Seminary (’06), and his Doctorate in Ministry from Virginia Theological Seminary (’19).
Sari is married to Tanory Ateek, and they are the proud parents of two children. His greatest enjoyments are travel, CrossFit, playing music, and experiencing the world through the eyes of his children.
