As you plan your Spring cleaning, you may wonder what to do with your used paperback books. Consider donating them to DC BOOKS TO PRISONS!
The U.S. has less than five percent of the world's population, yet more than 25 percent of the world's people in prison. Many imprisoned people have little access to books or educational material. While some prisons have libraries, many do not. Of prisons that do, access and selection can be extremely limited. Programs like this one are one of the few options available to incarcerated people seeking books.
DC Books to Prisons is a volunteer organization providing free books to individual prisoners and prison libraries. It is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that each year sends more than 7,000 book packages to prisoners in over 600 prisons in the US and serves state and federal prisoners in 34 states.
You can support DC Books to Prisons by donating PAPERBACK BOOKS in good condition. To best match books prisoners request and those donated, parishioners are asked to review the categories listed on the DC Books to Prisons webpage at dcbookstoprisoners.org/donate-books/. There is a collection box outside the sacristy for donated paperbacks. Or use the form below to contact Peg Sanders to arrange pick-up of your books.
