Every January for the past decade, the men of St. John’s have gathered at the beautiful campus of Shrine Mont, an Episcopal retreat center in the Shenandoah foothills, for a weekend of spiritual refreshment, great fellowship, and delicious food. This year we will gather at the end of the day on Friday, January 24th through lunch on Sunday the 26th.
This year we’re particularly excited because our very own Tom Hebert and Mark Edwards, with help from Jay Mallin and Carl Schaefer, will lead us in a program called Being With. Supported enthusiastically by Bishop Marianne, the program looks at how we can make stronger and more meaningful connections with others in our parish and community.
The Being With approach draws on three key principles. First, God’s ultimate desire is to be with you. Second, The Holy Spirit has been at work in your life from day one. Finally, God’s method is the same as God’s message.
We will be exploring doing this training for parishioners this year—and there will be opportunities to get involved.
In addition, at the retreat, we will be talking about the future of the Men’s Ministry. You may know us as sponsors of the crab fest in August, the Oktoberfest dinner, numerous chill grills, and an active program during COVID. We’ll start the conversation this January, but we want to hear from you. So we’ll have more opportunities to get involved and shape the course of this active, vital ministry at St. John’s.
