Nov. 8 Adult Forum – “Faith in Action: Showing Up for Ukraine”

Sunday, Nov. 8  |  10:00 am  |  Parish Hall / Zoom (bit.ly/STJNmain)  -

St. John's Ukrainian Support Group invites you to the 10:00 am Forum on Sunday, November 8, featuring a presentation on a novel, but hands-on and effective means of providing humanitarian supplies to victims of Russia’s aggression in Ukraine.

Have you thought about traveling more in retirement, perhaps through Europe?   Join us to hear the story of how retired business executive, Hunt Hendrickson (cousin of parishioner Hank Hendrickson), drove a truck loaded with medical supplies from the UK to Kyiv twice over the past year.

As a lifetime member of All Saints Church in Frederick, MD, as well as a member of Holy Trinity in Oxford, MD, Hunt put his faith into action in the form of a commitment to help those in need in war-torn Ukraine.   He will describe how a chance meeting in Maryland led to connections in Wales, where the Welsh Synedd (Senate) had organized a supply operation from the UK to Ukraine, drawing on a long standing common bond, established through a brotherhood of coal miners.

We will hear how Hunt’s service included travel across the Atlantic, purchase of a truckload of medical provisions, as well as the small truck, itself - then, driving across continental Europe to deliver those supplies to Kyiv and onto the eastern front.

With two trips under his belt, we suspect Hunt is gearing up for another mission, especially as humanitarian needs among Ukrainians are increasing.  In the course of his work, Hunt has engaged personally with Ukrainian citizens and, with the war in its fourth year, is prepared to offer insights into public attitudes, aspirations and hopes for continued American support.

Hunt was born and raised in Frederick, where he ran a financial services company and continues to serve in leadership positions in the Episcopal Church and civic organizations.  He celebrates his 80th birthday this year!
