It is with profound sorrow and a heavy heart that I acknowledge the tragic news of the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Charlie Kirk was a prominent conservative political commentator and founder of Turning Point USA, well known for his advocacy for youth engagement in politics and for shaping the conversation on the right. While we may have held differing views from him, his life was cut short by an act of senseless violence, and for that, we mourn.
Here in our community, we have always been unequivocal in our condemnation of gun violence in all its forms, regardless of who the victim might be. Every person, no matter their beliefs or background, is a child of God. Every life has inherent value and dignity, and the deliberate taking of a life is something we must stand against with conviction. Because of this belief, which is deeply rooted in our Baptismal Covenant, we continue to advocate tirelessly for gun reform, and for policies and practices that protect every life. We do this so that we may all live in a world where peace prevails, and where every person - every last one - can live without fear of violence.
In the aftermath of this tragedy, may we hold fast to compassion and mercy. Please join me in praying for the family of Charlie Kirk, for all those affected by senseless gun violence, and for healing in our nation. May we reach out in love to those who are hurting, and may we remain steadfast in our commitment to life, justice, and peace.
Yours in Christ,
Sari+
