MEETING OPEN TO ALL
The Men's Book Club is pleased to invite you to a discussion of an incisive biography written by St. John's parishioner Tim Dobbyn. The book is titled Black, White + Colour: A Biography of Mervyn Bishop, Australia’s First Indigenous Professional Photographer.
Bishop lived with the Dobbyn’s family in Sydney for a time and continued to have connections with the family. Bishop overcame deeply seated prejudice in Australian white society to become an award winning photographer. The book is written with a gentle touch but it tells a powerful story about Australia’s often-times harsh treatment of its original inhabitants. It also provides an intimate portrait of Bishop, his family and the rural “bush” country in which he grew up and, in some ways, never seems to have fully left. The book is greatly enriched by the inclusion of many insightful photographs taken by Bishop over the years.
As Black, White + Colour is not generally available in the United States please order it through this link, https://www.blackwhiteandc.com/product-page/black-white-colour-local-delivery-ofinternational-edition, and enter the promo code StJohns.
