Feb 8 Forum: “The History and Future of Beloved Community at St. John’s”

Sunday, Feb. 8  |  10:00 am  |  Parish Hall/Zoom (link: bit.ly/STJNmain)  -

Interested in what St. John’s Racial Justice and Equity Committee is up to?

Join us Sunday, February 8, at the 10:00 am Adult Forum to find out! We will cover the history of St. John’s work in this area, important milestones, and exciting new opportunities for engagement.

The Racial Justice and Equity Committee was established to build a shared vision of Beloved Community within the parish and our broader community. Our engagement to address inequities is our most potent means of showing others the path of Jesus and our faith. We have an opportunity to step up, refocus conversation, heal breaches and reassure others that we can get through this difficult period in our history.

We are especially excited to preview the launch of our salon series, Advancing Beloved Community in this Moment, on second Wednesdays of each month from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, starting in March. Now more than ever we need to bear witness and keep the conversation going. To that end we will be hosting conversations with outside speakers on timely topics such as equality, inclusion and diversity in the workplace; the commemorative efforts of the Montgomery County Lynching Memorial Project; current challenges affecting indigenous communities in the Southwest; ongoing local initiatives to foster racial reconciliation; and, an important initiative to preserve the dignity of African American grave sites. While the list is not yet finalized, we promise stimulating discussions as well as a message of faith and action that is restorative, healthy and needed.
