Feb. 1 Adult Forum: “A Conversation with Aaron Scott”

Sunday, Feb. 1  |  10:00 am  |  Parish Hall / Zoom (bit.ly/STJNmain)  -

In 2022, The Episcopal Church’s 80th General Convention took the ground-breaking step of calling for a position dedicated to LGBTQ+ and women’s ministries. After a nearly two-year process, Aaron Scott was hired as The Episcopal Church’s first Gender Justice Staff Officer.

In announcing Aaron’s hiring, The Episcopal Church said he would “seek to inspire, gather, and equip Episcopalians for justice, advocacy, and inclusion work focused on women and LGBTQ+ people.”

During his career, Aaron has worked on many issues that parallel efforts at St. John’s, including the Union Theological Seminary’s Kairos Center's project on Confronting White Christian Nationalism - Kairos Center and the Poor People’s Campaign

At the invitation of St. John’s Pride Alliance Ministry, Aaron will speak at our February 1 Adult Forum. He will share about the theological and scriptural underpinnings of The Episcopal Church’s approach to gender justice; the gender justice work being done by Episcopalian congregations across the U.S.; and how The Episcopal Church is supporting those initiative. The timing is perfect as the Diocese of Washington holds its annual convention this week with the theme of “upholding one another in love.”
