Associate Rector

The Rev. Sarah Reynolds joined St. John’s in Autumn 2021 to focus on Adult Formation and Education: the foundational why and how and “so what” questions of our shared faith. Holding degrees from Wesley Theological Seminary, The University of Chicago Divinity School, and Church Divinity School of the Pacific, Sarah is a lifelong learner and seeker who finds joy in the collaborative practices of human identity and Christian community. Raised in Virginia in a family of United Methodist pastors, she has an easy informality around church: may it be a place where we can all bring our whole selves.
Animated by questions of racial and social justice in the U.S., the messy gift of Incarnation, and the mystery of the Trinity, Sarah brings a broad knowledge and deep passion for lived theology. Fond of saying “everyone is a theologian, whether they know it or not,” she particularly enjoys helping folks reframe what they believe implicitly into a functional understanding of how deeply our beliefs shape our daily lives and interactions. Favorite theologians include the American prophet James Baldwin, the Irish mystic Van Morrison, and Southern Gothic storyteller Pat Conroy. She believes the stuff of faith and the stuff of life are indeed the same stuff: God is found everywhere and all ground is holy ground. Just being a person of faith in the world is a grace and a challenge, and one best embarked upon in conversation and community.
Aside from preaching, teaching, and talking theology, Sarah loves baseball, cooking, live music, and a great book. She lives in nearby Virginia with her partner, Mitch, and their dogs.
