November 16 Outreach Sunday: Lutheran Social Services

On Sunday, November 16, as we look toward Thanksgiving, please share your blessings with less fortunate families by donating to Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area (LSSNCA). LSSNCA's mission is "to foster resiliency, self-sufficiency, and access to opportunities by creating, connecting, and engaging with welcoming communities."

St. John’s Refugee Ministry has partnered with LSSNCA to sponsor refugee families from Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Gaza, and, earlier this year, from Venezuela. LSSNCA prepared our Refugee Ministry for sponsorship, training, and vetting of volunteers, and connecting families with essential benefits and case management in the first months of resettlement. Unfortunately, LSS has experienced a significant loss of federal funds under the current administration and has been forced to reduce staff, but they continue to provide a variety of much-needed services to the newcomer immigrant community. At St. John’s last June, LSSNCA CEO Krystin Peck moderated a panel discussion on “ Carrying Forward the Legacy of Welcome” with MD State Delegate Teresa Woorman and members of the local refugee community.

Please give generously to LSS.  To donate online, please use Breeze and select "Outreach Sunday: Lutheran Social Services" from the drop-down menu. Thanks!
