Walk for Gaza
With hundreds of homes destroyed and many of its two million inhabitants left without water, electricity or even sewer service, the situation for many in Gaza is desperate. You can help. Iqraa, the running group co-captained by St. John’s Holy Land Committee Co-Chair Kirk Campbell, is sponsoring a team in a “virtual” 5K walk/run on June 12 to aid UNRWA, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, which is the UN agency that provides relief to Palestinians.
St. John’s Men’s Ministry Committee is supporting this effort, looking for donors and participants. Since the event is virtual, you can do the 5K/3.1 miles at your own convenience. But you’re invited to join the Men’s Ministry on June 12 to walk through shady neighborhood streets, followed optionally by grabbing lunch at one of our neighborhood restaurants. Please arrive at St. John’s by about 10:15 am; we’ll hand out water bottles and granola bars in the parish hall, then head out at 10:30. (Please note: you’re welcome to run if you prefer, but as a group the Men’s Ministry does not run. We stroll, and we do so in an amiable, social manner!)
To participate either as a walker or a donor, please use this link. Joining the team (by clicking the “Join Team” button on the left-hand side of the screen) costs $45 – and gets you a cool UNWRA t-shirt by mail! Clicking on the donor link and making a contribution is just as helpful. For more information, contact the Men’s Ministry Committee via John Ross or Jay Mallin or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
