** UPDATE: Rescheduled for Sunday, July 23 (originally June 25). **
Please join the Holy Land Committee at our annual inspirational luncheon event with New Story Leadership (NSL), Sunday, July 23rd from 12 noon to 2 pm. As in the past, we will host this year’s New Story Leadership delegation of five Palestinian and five Israeli young leaders (aged 20-30-something) to hear the stories of their lives and their hopes and commitment for a new future. Participants will also have an opportunity to speak with members of the delegation at tables.
NSL brings these incredible young leaders to Washington for seven weeks each summer to live together (Nancy Adams and Steve Richards are both hosting delegates.), hold work placements in Congress (in offices of Senators Chris Van Hollen and Bernie Sanders, Congressman Jamie Raskin, Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib and several others) and undertake leadership training. The goal is to to help create a new story for this most challenged region.
St. John’s has supported NSL now for many years and recently has helped fund their on-the-ground alumni program, helping over 150 NSL alumni continue to work for peace together upon their return. Alumni representatives met with the St. John’s pilgrimage group in Jerusalem in early April and pilgrims were wowed by their presentation and commitment to a different, more peaceful life going forward that respects the interests and human rights of both peoples.
