Forum: Who is a Neighbor & What Does that Entail? A Theological Discussion

October 15, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Who we are as a parish is inextricably intertwined with our location and who our neighbors are.   On Sunday, October 15, at the 10:00 am Adult Forum, the Rev. John Talbird will explore the demographics of the neighborhoods near St. John’s Norwood, then lead a theological discussion about our parish’s responsibilities to those neighbors and neighborhoods.

Rev. Talbird will share demographic research on the households situated within a one-mile radius of St. John’s.  His presentation and the ensuing discussion will explore answers to such questions as:  What is this neighborhood like and who are the people in it?  Who are we in relationship to our neighbors and what responsibilities do we have toward our neighbors and the neighborhood?  What does it mean for us to sit at this crossroads?

This is the third session of a three-part series, organized as part of St. John’s year-long 150th Anniversary Celebration.  On October 1, St. John’s Archivist, Cathy O’Donnell, shared highlights from our parish history.  On October 8, journalist and filmmaker Jay Mallin  explored the racial history of St. John’s corner of Montgomery County.  Those presentations set the stage for this October 15 discussion.
