Daryl Davis – Accidental Courtesy
Please join us on Sunday, October 14th, as we hear from Daryl Davis, an award-winning local blues musician by profession who embraces adversaries as a hobby. Daryl finds that “when two enemies are talking, they are not fighting. It’s when the talking ceases that the ground becomes fertile for violence. If you spend five minutes with your worst enemy – it doesn’t have to be about race, it could be about anything… you will find that you both have something in common. As you build upon those commonalities, you’re forming a relationship and as you build upon that relationship, you’re forming a friendship.”
All told, Daryl’s outreach has led 200 Ku Klux Klan members to give up their robes. If you have time, please check out the documentary about him Accidental Courtesy: Daryl Davis, Race & America (available on Netflix) or read about it here.
Active in our community and nationwide, Daryl offers us his perspective on the uptick on hate crimes, bias incidents and Klan activity in our county, and what to do about it.
