Adult Forum with Will Jawando
Our forum speaker this week is Will Jawando, one of four at-large members of the Montgomery County Council. Councilmember Jawando is an attorney, activist, and community leader with a lifelong dedication to public service. Born in Silver Spring to a Nigerian father and white Kansan mother, he earned his undergraduate and J.D. degrees from Catholic University, where he started the first NAACP chapter on campus.
Before his election to the county council in 2018, Jawando worked in the White House during the Obama years and at the U.S. Department of Education under Secretary Arne Duncan, and founded several nonprofit and other initiatives in Montgomery County. During the COVID-19 emergency, he has sponsored a bill to halt rent increases in the county, handed out boxed groceries with a local church, and is having a regular story time for children on his Facebook page. Councilmember Jawando and his wife are the parents of three girls and a boy.
