Adult Forum on Criminal Justice Reform
Even as the country’s political polarization appears to worsen, many liberals and conservatives have come together to grapple with a unifying issue – criminal justice reform. They’re taking on everything from mandatory minimum sentencing rules that can seem arbitrary to laws and industry practices that may make it impossible for those once imprisoned to ever reenter the workforce.
This is the topic for this week’s adult forum speaker, Kevin Ring, in our continuing series on justice. Kevin is a former lobbyist, twice named one of K Street’s “Top Rainmakers.” He’s now the president of FAMM, a DC-based advocacy group working “to create a more fair and effective justice system that respects our American values of individual accountability and dignity while keeping our communities safe.”
But he also speaks from first-hand experience. While a lobbyist Kevin was caught up in the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal – federal prosecutors alleged in court he was the “COO of Team Abramoff” – and following two trials he served 20 months in federal prison.
Kevin has testified before Congress, made appearances on networks from FOX to MSNBC, and spoken at events of the Congressional Black Caucus and the Conservative Political Action Conference. He is also the author of a book, Scalia’s Court: A Legacy of Landmark Opinions and Dissents.
Join us for this Sunday’s forum as Kevin discusses the issues, his work and his personal experience.
