Eco-Action Team Taking Action

by Carolyn Peirce, Eco-Action Team Member

Members of The Eco-Action Team had a productive day on Saturday volunteering with the Ward 8 Woods Conservancy as we spent several hours at Fort Stanton Park in Anacostia helping to clean up the woods by picking up trash in an otherwise beautiful park. We were joined by about 20 young volunteers, and together we picked up an estimated 2000 pounds! We all felt as though we had made a real impact.

Thanks to the generosity of St. John’s parishioners, we raised $2500 during our Lenten Pledge season to help further our eco-justice efforts. The Ward 8 Woods Conservancy, along with DC Greens and The Well at Oxon Run, will receive checks this week.

Thanks to our participants yesterday, members and friends of the Eco-Action Team: Jane Houlihan, Tom Kerr, Carol May, Melanie Folstad, Rick McCumber, Earle O’Donnell, Cathy Beyer, Jerry Sullivan, and Carolyn Peirce! Stay tuned for more opportunities in the future!
