May 2 – We welcome James Stowe back to St. John’s, this time as a preacher. James is a long-time advocate for human rights, racial equity and social justice and currently serves as the Director of the Montgomery County Office of Human Rights.
May 9 – As we celebrate Rite 13, a ceremony honoring our youth as then enter into their journey to adulthood, our own Dawn Molloy, Director of Children, Youth, & Family Ministries, will preach.
May 16 – Prior to the Annual Parish Meeting, join us in worship for a message from our rector, Rev. Sari Ateek.
May 23 – On Pentecost Sunday, we will welcome the Rev. Kendra Smith who serves as the lead for engagement in and service to the community at Kingdom Fellowship AME (African Methodist Episcopal) Church in Silver Spring. Rev. Kendra will offer a sermon discussion following the service.
May 30 – Rev. Jon Dephouse, rector of Thad’s Church in Los Angeles, will return as a guest preacher.
June 6 – On “Wear Orange” Sunday, we will be turning our attention to the tragedy of gun violence. Giselle Morch, a deacon at Montgomery Hills Baptist Church in Silver Spring, a mother who lost her son Jaycee to gun violence in 2017, and an activist for gun violence prevention with Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, will join us to preach on gun violence prevention. Giselle will offer a sermon discussion following the service.
