by John F. Ross, Chair, Men’s Ministry Committee
This week, St. John’s will offer its third family food distribution at the B-CC Rescue Squad. Thank you to the dozens of St. John’s parishioners who have already volunteered!
The Men’s Ministry Committee and the Social Advocacy Committee, with the able assistance of our Deacon, put together a coalition of community members to tackle the intractable problem of food insecurity in our area. St. John’s, Nourish Now, the Greater Bethesda Chamber of Commerce, Hyatt Regency Bethesda, and the Rescue Squad comprise the Nourishing Bethesda Coalition, which has committed to sponsor weekly food distributions – every Friday between 1:00 and 3:00 pm – for the next six months. Up to 200 families will receive pre-cooked restaurant meals, shelf stable food, beautiful produce, and milk.
You can contribute in so many ways! Here’s the sign up genius link to sign up to volunteer on Fridays. Sign up soon; spaces are filling up quickly! You can also send in donations to help defray costs.
We’re also looking for volunteers to work on committees to help make sure that we can make this effort sustainable and effective. Email Anne Derse at firstname.lastname@example.org for details.
Come be a part of making a HUGE difference in the life of our community!
